A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CUBIC PROJECT


CUBIC (Cornell University Botanical Image Collection) is the descendant of Plantsystematics.org and Phytoimages. These two databases were originally independent, although served with the same interface from different sites. CUBIC now has all images for both Plantsuystematic.org and Phytoimages. Because unique identifiers (i.e,, accession numbers of images) overlapped, all images were deaccessioned at the time of the merger under CUBIC id numbers.

Plantsystematics.org was founded by Kevin Nixon, while Phytoimages was founded by Daniel Nickrent.
