Dionaea muscipula | |
"Venus Flytrap" | |
LHBC 835 | |
Family: Droseraceae | |
Native to: North and South Carolina. | |
CARNIVOROUS. When an insect happens to wander within the crease of an individual fly trap, the plant is triggered to close and the insect is slowly digested by the plant's own enzymes. The small hairs within the crease are specialized to ensure that the plant only closes around an insect instead of every gust of wind.
