Laurus nobilis
"Bay Laurel, Bay Leaf"
LHBC 80
Family: Lauraceae
Native to: Mediterranean region
EVERGREEN SHRUB or SMALL TREE. This is the "Bay leaf" that is used in Mediterranean cooking, often placed as whole leaves in pasta sauces. The flavor is due to aromatic oils (terpenoids) that are common in most members of the family Lauraceae.
Horticultural notes: 9-11. In mild climates Bay Laurel is relatively easy to cultivate, and is evergreen and drought tolerant. It also does well as a houseplant if it is moved outside in the summer months.
