Native to: Tropical America.
Although not a true palm, this plant resembles a fan palm. Fibers from the leaves are used to make (true) Panama Hats, known for their ability to be folded or rolled and return to their original shape.
Horticultural notes: Cultivated only in truly tropical zones, where it prefers moist rich soil and abundant moisture.
