Native to: Southeast Asia and Western Pacific Islands
Although Gnetum is a gymnosperm, it has broad leaves that superficially resemble those of flowering plants. The female reproductive structures are spikes of naked ovules subtended by bracts. Related broadly to both Welwitschia and Ephedra.
Horticultural notes: Tropical. Not tolerant of frost. Otherwise, relatively easy to grow in a greenhouse situation.
