Native to: Namibia and South Africa
CAUDICIFORM VINE. Related to cucumbers, squash and gourds! The large gnarly "stem" is actually the exposed root system that has been planted above soil level. In the wild, such roots will be below soil level, often very deep, and may reach massive sizes. They store moisture and nutrients and allow the plant to survive the extreme dry season when the vine top withers and dies.
Horticultural notes: This plant needs good drainage and little water.
