EVERGREEN SHRUB. Coffee is a member of Rubiaceae, a family rich in alkaloids and with many toxis species. Fortunately, the most prevalent alkaloid in coffee is caffeine.
Horticultural notes: Coffee plantations have replaced huge areas of tropical premontane and montane forest in Central and South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. Easy to grow as a houseplant.
