Monstera delicious is a large liana that climbs trees in tropical forests of the Americas. The unusual cut-out leaves make it easy to identify, and these are found in wild forms, not just those in cultivation. The fruit, formed from a tight inflorescence of many flowers, is edible, and said to have a taste somewhat like a cross between pineapple and banana . However, all other parts of the plant, as well as unripe fruits, are toxic due to high levels of oxalates. | |
Horticultural notes: Easily grown in moist soils in shade or sun in tropical and subtropical environments. |
