Leland Norcross Allen received his M.S. at Cornell University in 1928, working with Lewis Knudson. He was the first seed analyst for his home state of Alabama and his lab employed methods to assure the quality of seed being imported to Alabama for farm crops. Allen served for several years as President of the Association of Official Seed Analysts.
