George N. Asai was the son of Japanese immigrants who relocated from Houston, Texas to Ithaca in 1918, so their nine children could eventually attend Cornell University. Asai completed a B.S. and a Ph.D. in Horticulture. Two of his sisters, and his younger brother, Woody, completed degrees in Floriculture. George enlisted in the Armed Forces in 1943 and had a long military career, ultimately attaining the rank of Major. Woody worked for many years as a gardener for the New York City Housing Authority. |
