Rudolf Friedrich Hohenhacker was a Swiss missionary and physician who settled in Azerbaijan in 1821. From 1829-1942 Hohenacker was associated with the Botanische Reiseverein, a German company established to dispatch botanists to other parts of the world to acquire herbarium material for sale to naturalists. Hohenhacker returned to Basel in 1841 and settled in Germany. Collections from the Caucasus and adjoining areas are truly his, but collections from Chile, Ethiopia, India, Italy, Saudi Arabia, South Africa or Suriname that may be attributed to Hohenacker are those of other botanists. |
